059109417J Air valve rocker is a double-arm lever that uses a rocker arm shaft as the pivot point and has two arms with different lengths. The short arm end is provided with a threaded hole for inserting the air valve gap adjustment screw. The long arm end is processed into an arc surface that act as the operation face for driving the air valve.
In an engine system with a top-mounted air valve, the rocker arm support is a part of the air intake/exhaust mechanism. The air intake/exhaust mechanism consists of camshaft, tappet, rocker arm, rocker arm shaft, rocker arm support, air valve, air valve spring, and other components. Air valve opening/closing is achieved through movement of the tappet and the rocker arm. The rocker arm is mounted on the support with the aid of the shaft. One end of the arm is driven via the tappet by the camshaft, while the other end is pressed against the valve stem and works in conjunction with the spring to control opening/closing of the air valve.
A metal connecting rod is needed for air valve rocker connection. The cam lifts up the connecting rod to push the rocker arm, thus opening/closing the air valve. However, since a too high rotary speed may easily cause the push rod to break, this design is mostly used for engines with large displacement, low RPM, and high torque output. In a top-mounted camshaft configuration, the push rod can be eliminated, and the transmission mechanism from the camshaft to the air valve can be simplified. It is more suitable for high-speed engine performance. Top-mounted camshaft has broad applications nowadays.
