Function of engine oil pump:
An engine oil pump pressurizes the oil to a certain level and forces it to the moving surfaces of different parts. There are two groups of engine oil pump in terms of structural form: gear type and rotor type. Gear type engine oil pumps can be further categorized into internal gear and external gear forms, with the latter typically known as the synonym for gear type oil pump.
Working principle :
Gear type is widely used due to the advantages of reliable operation, simple structure, easy manufacturing, and high pumping pressure.
During engine operation, the camshaft drive gear puts the engine oil pump drive gear in motion, and causes the driving gear on the driving gear shaft to rotate, which turns the driven gear along the opposite direction. As a result, the oil is delivered from the oil inlet chamber via the tooth space and pump wall to the oil outlet chamber.
In this way, suction force is generated due to low pressure in the oil inlet chamber, drawing the oil from the oil sump into the chamber. As the driving and driven gears continue to rotate, the oil is delivered to desired parts under pressure.
