What is the purpose of fuel injector nozzle?

A fuel injector nozzle is intended to deliver fuel to the combustion chamber of an engine accurately. It takes the form of a simple solenoid valve on a car.

When the solenoid valve is energized, suction force is generated and lifts the needle valve, causing the orifice to be opened. The fuel is then atomized and injected rapidly via the annular gap between the axial needle at the head of the needle valve and the orifice. The atomization process facilitates full combustion.

Two injection modes are commonly used for fuel injector nozzles: intake manifold injection and direct injection. These two modes share the same structural diagram of fuel injector nozzle, but have different pressure levels.

The pressure in intake manifold fuel lines is typically 2-8 kg, and drops to 1 kg after normal flameout. This figure serves as an index for determining failure of fuel lines. By contrast, the direct injection process occurs under high pressure, corresponding to a fuel line pressure level of up to 24-200 kg.
