Purpose of the oil and gas separator:
It decomposes engine oil steam from the oil sump and water steam from the combustion chamber. The separated oil film flows back along the pipe wall to the oil sump, while the filtered steam enters the engine for secondary combustion. The oil/gas filter is typically installed next to the vent of the engine crankcase or the exhaust pipe. It helps filter out engine oil from gas coming out of the crankcase, thus reducing the amount of oil travelling from the crankcase vent to outside of the engine.

The oil and gas mixture entering the air/gas separator via the oil pipes will be sprayed onto the oil retaining cap (oil diffusion cap). The diffused oil moves under gravity along the pipe wall to the bottom of the separator, where it’s drained by the oil extraction pipe. In the meanwhile, the lower-density gas moves upward, and is redirected by the separation umbrella. Small oil drops in the gas will adhere to the umbrella wall, accumulate, and then move downward along the wall. The oil-free gas will enter gas testing pipes via the vent on top of the separator.
