An B12814 oil filter is located on top of the engine in the front section or below it. Also known as oil grid, it is intended to remove dust, metal particles, carbon deposit, sooty particles, and other foreign matters in the oil, and therefore protect the engine.
Two types of oil filters are commonly available: full flow and partial flow.
A full flow oil filter is connected in series between an engine oil pump and main oil circuit, and is able to filter all lubricant in the main oil circuit.
A partial flow filter is connected in parallel with the main oil circuit, and only filters the lubricant delivered by the oil filter pump.
Matters needing attention during use of oil filter: The oil and the oil filter should be replaced at the same time in order to extend the life cycle of the engine. While removing the oil filter, use a filter wrench or an appropriate tool to prevent damage to the connection threads.
